Deputy Sgt. Kim Cooper seriously injured in car crash on Highway 51.

A car crash on Sunday night left a Parker County sheriff’s deputy injured.

The incident took place at about 8:30 p.m. along Highway 51 in Parker County, just north of Weatherford. Sgt. Kim Cooper was returning to the sheriff’s office in her marked patrol car after responding to an earlier call.

Details about the actual crash have not been released. The incident is being investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Cooper suffered a broken leg during the car crash. Authorities said that her leg was pinned inside of her vehicle until emergency crews arrived on the scene and were able to pull her from the wreckage. She was taken to a Fort Worth hospital by air ambulance.

The northbound lanes of Highway 51 were briefly shut down during the incident.
