Armed driver in stolen SUV crashes after leading police on 2-county chase

A police pursuit that began in Blount County ended when the fleeing driver crashed on a Birmingham roadside. The driver was in a stolen SUV. He reportedly rammed police cars and led pursuers into Jefferson County before crashing on Tarrant Huffman Road. A Blount County deputy who sustained minor injuries was also taken to a hospital for treatment. The chase started at a grocery store in Remlap where authorities say there may have been an attempted kidnapping of a woman. At 9:16, the SUV left the road and was airborne for 100 yards before landing on its roof.

Law enforcement cuts man out of car after police chase, crash

Crews worked for more than 30 minutes to cut the man out of the car after he crashed. One deputy involved in the chase sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for further examination. The suspect was taken to UAB Hospital with serious injuries, and according to law enforcement, he was driving a stolen van.
