Man steals SUV with child inside; hits and kills woman in head-on crash while fleeing

Police say Scarbrough was driving a vehicle he stole from a nearby convenience with a young boy inside. A Birmingham man has been charged with murder in a weekend traffic crash that killed a 64-year-old Lipscomb woman. The young boy wasn't seriously injured and was quickly returned to his family. Miles said officers learned Scarbrough stole the SUV from the parking of the Stop-N-Go convenience Store about a block away on Dartmouth. A passenger in the SUV, a juvenile boy, was taken to the hospital by private vehicle.

The crash that killed Evans happened at 6:54 p.m. Coleman was partially ejected from the SUV and pronounced dead on the scene at 10:20 p.m. Adams was taken to UAB Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 12:15 a.m. Evans was taken to UAB Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 8:24 p.m. Bailey was taken to Brookwood Baptist Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 7:01 p.m.

 Authorities said the driver that hit her was behind the wheel of Cadillac SUV that had been stolen from the Stop & Go, also on Dartmouth. The SUV was travelling at a high rate of speed and had struck multiple vehicles before crashing into Evans' Toyota Corolla.
