Kelsey Nicole Starling, 26, killed and several injured in boat collision on Smith Lake near Crane Hill, Alabama
The search for 26-year-old Kelsey Nicole Starling of Troy will continue Saturday morning. She was a passenger in a 2012 Mastercraft wakeboard boat involved in a two-vessel crash at approximately 10 p.m. Thursday night.
WBMA, the ABC affiliate in Birmingham, reports that William Jackson Fite, 23, was booked into the Winston County Jail Friday morning and charged with Boating Under the Influence.
People have held out hope that Starling would be found since she went missing on Independence Day, with residents tying blue ribbons to their docks on the lake in a show of support for Starlings family.
On Wednesday, troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Marine Patrol Division arrested Nick Bowling Suggs, 50, and Jodi Wallace Suggs, 50, charging both Decatur natives with criminally negligent homicide regarding a fatal boat crash July 4 on Smith Lake that killed Starling, 26, of Troy.
William “Jackson” Fite, a 23-year-old Decatur native who now lives in Atlanta, on Monday pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor BUI charge in a Winston County courtroom.
On Thursday, Circuit Judge Jimmy Daryl Burt set a a jury trial on Feb. 3 for Nick and Jodi Suggs, who are charged with criminally negligent homicide for a boating accident where Kelsey Starling went missing.
