Sharon Hood, veteran bus driver, killed, and 15 injured when bus collides with SUV on County Roads 30 and 35 in Pickens County, Alabama

Pickens County School's superintendent Jamie Chapman announced the loss of bus driver, Sharon Hood, through the system's Facebook page.
"It is with a heavy heart that the Pickens County Board of Education and its Superintendent announce the loss of one of our veteran bus drivers, Mrs. Sharon Hood, as a result of a motor vehicle accident yesterday in Pickens County.
The driver of the SUV — 30-year-old Daniel Alexander Bunch of Aberdeen, Miss. — and 12 bus passengers were transported to local hospitals.
Bus driver Sharon Hood died from her injuries. Superintendent Jamie Chapman said Hood was a veteran driver who was hard working, dedicated and loved the children she transported.
Administrators with Pickens County Schools said Monday that counselors were made available to students at Reform Elementary and Pickens County High schools.
A service will be held Saturday at the Pickens County High School auditorium for Sharon Hood, the school bus driver who was killed in an April 10 crash. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until noon Saturday at the auditorium.
The SUV failed to yield to the bus from a stop sign and hit the bus in an “angular front end collision,” the report states. The driver “stated he was not paying attention and did not see the stop sign,” the trooper report says.

Hood was driving the bus when it collided with an SUV near Ethelsville, west of Reform, Alabama on Friday. The bus then crashed into a tree. There were 14 students on board, from Reform Elementary School and Pickens County High School. All who were involved in the crash suffer from minor to severe injuries.
