State troopers in Alabama say an 18-wheeler truck hauling a load of chickens overturned near Danville.

Troopers tell local media the wreck happened just after 4 a.m. Friday. Investigators say the truck driver said a car was taking up both lanes of Highway 55 and the truck went off the road when it swerved to avoid the car. It was unclear whether storms in the area played a role in the wreck.
Overturned Pilgrim's Pride 18-wheeler shuts down highway
Emergency crews responded to an overturned 18-wheeler on Highway 55 on Friday morning, about one mile west of New Cut Road in Danville near the Massey community. Officials say the Pilgrim's Pride 18-wheeler was carrying a trailer load of chickens when the accident occurred.
A car was taking up both lanes of Highway 55, forcing the truck to swerve to avoid hitting it. The truck went off the road when it swerved causing it to overturn. The drive was injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment. The road will be closed in the area of the accident while the truck is removed from the ditch.
