AAMU students hold vigil for critically injured man

Students came together in a vigil Wednesday night to lift Shakeel and his family in prayer and support. Police say a car was traveling on Buchanan Way and struck 21-year-old Najee Jamaal Shakeel of Birmingham. The vigil was also to show respect and support to two other losses in the campus community. However, Huntsville Hospital officials said shortly after the police announcement that he is still listed in critical condition. Huntsville police said Wednesday afternoon that Shakeel had died as a result of his injuries.

Alabama A&M student critical after pedestrian crash in 3rd tragedy to hit university in days

An Alabama A&M University student is on life-support after being struck by a car on the Alabama A&M campus Monday in one of three tragedies to strike the Alabama A&M family since Sunday night. The investigation into Perry's crash is ongoing. Najee Jamaal Shakeel, 21, of Birmingham was struck on Buchanan Way around 7 p.m. Police initially said the crash occurred because Perry and the driver of a Mercury sedan were racing each other.
