It happened early Saturday morning on the Emerald Mountain toll bridge. Elmore Sheriffs tell Alabama News Network the truck weighs about 1,000 tons and is submerged under water. Motorists should expect delays as recovery efforts and bridge repair continue. One of the trucks went off the bridge and into the River.

Family members of the missing driver have identified him as Lonnie "PeeWee" Phillips of Shorter. According to Gallups, the toll bridge has reopened. The Montgomery Fire Department and Emerald Mountain Fire Department, along with other agencies, were called to the scene in an attempt to find the driver of the truck that went into the river. According to Emerald Mountain Assistant Fire Chief John Gallups, recovery efforts have been called off, after hours of searching, due to the condition of the river following the recent rains.

Alabama state trooper Jess Thornton tells the Montgomery Advertiser (http://on.mgmadv.com/1OIJZJc ) the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's Marine Patrol is out searching for 66-year-old Lonnie Phillips. Thornton says divers are not involved in the search efforts due to swift currents and high waters. Thornton says the incident began after Phillips' concrete truck collided with another concrete truck on the Emerald Mountain Toll Bridge Saturday. Phillips' truck then rolled over the barricade, went down the embankment and is now stuck in the Tallapoosa River below.

The Emerald Mountain Toll Bridge has reopened after search crews recovered the wreckage of a concrete truck from a weekend accident that took the life the truck's driver. ALEA dive teams, as well as the Department of Transportation and local agencies, searched the Tallapoosa River for the driver and the concrete truck over the weekend in dangerous conditions. The body of the driver was found inside the cab of the truck.
