Pedestrian struck, killed by vehicle in Anchorage

Anchorage police say Arthur Mike was struck by a sport utility vehicle just after 11:30 p.m. near the Ben Boeke (BOH'-kee) Ice Arena as he attempted to cross Gambell Street south of 15th Avenue.

In order for the charge of negligent homicide to be applied to Akpik, the state would have to prove the impairment caused the collision rather than Mike's intoxication, he wrote. 

Authorities say the driver, Nita Akpik, 29, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. She has not been cited or charged.Traffic was shut down while police investigated the incident.
