Police said the man was wearing dark clothing and was crossing the street outside of a crosswalk when he was hit by the SUV. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pedestrian was dressed in dark clothing and was crossing outside of a crosswalk, officers said. The person was dead at the scene. The name of the pedestrian was being withheld Thursday night until next of kin can be notified.
Update: Police ID Man Killed By SUV On North Market Street
The Redding Police Department has publicly released the name of a pedestrian who was killed while crossing North Market Street Thursday night. At around 8:15 the pedestrian, identified as 51-year-old Jack Hodges of Redding, was crossing from the west to the east side of the road near Riverside Drive at the south end of the Market Street Bridge when he was struck by a northbound GMC Yukon. Police say Hodges was wearing dark clothing and was not in a crosswalk. The driver apparently didn’t see Hodges as the Yukon rounded the curve in the right lane. Hodges was declared dead at the scene. The driver was not cited.
