Disabled Car Explodes on Freeway in Bus Collision: CHP

No one was seriously injured when a bus collided with a disabled car on the 91 Freeway in Bellflower Sunday, Jan. 18.
A tour bus collided with a disabled car waiting for assistance on the 91 Freeway in Bellflower Sunday morning, resulting in the car to explode in flames. The driver and passenger of the car, a Nissan Maxima whose electrical system failed, jumped across the highway's center divider to avoid the bus, on a route to Los Angeles from Harrah's Casino in San Diego, according to the California Highway Patrol. Five of the bus's 19 passengers complained of minor injuries but none were sent to a hospital. The crash took place in the HOV lane near the 605 Freeway at 12:40 a.m., three minutes after the Nissan's occupants reported to the CHP their vehicle was disabled. Fire completely gutted the Nissan; the bus was allowed to continue to Los Angeles.
