CHASE ENDING IN CRASH KILLS INNOCENT PERSON IN CITY OF INDUSTRY

Officials revealed in a late-afternoon press conference the chase began when they responded to a burglary in progress in the 5200 block of Folger Street in Hacienda Heights. Upon arrival, deputies witnessed a black Chevrolet Camaro flee the scene.

"I looked out the window and they were kicking the door in, so I called the police," said one burglary witness, who said she also saw the black car get away.

Deputies chased the driver for about two miles before the suspect crashed into an SUV, killing the man inside, LASD officials said.

As deputies responded to the burglary they saw the car racing down the road. Speeds reached more than 60 mph on residential streets, and deputies called off the chase. 

Suspects, Victim in Deadly City of Industry Crash Identified

Deputies chased after the suspects after the men drove away. The pursuit was terminated when the suspect driver went into opposite lanes and swerved onto incoming traffic, officials said.

The driver eventually crashed into a a small utility vehicle at Gale Avenue and Johnson Drive and the driver, Rogelio Gonzalez, of Bellflower, was killed.

"He very much emphasized conquering our fears and just being the best individuals we can be, contributing the most we could to society," Sabrina said. "He not only helped his own family, but went above and beyond to help strangers."
