Michael Harris, 26, and Tyler Hayden killed; 3 injured after high-speed boat crash off of Santa Catalina Island, California

The Coast Guard and Los Angeles County rescue crews searched for the missing boater after the collision occurred early Sunday morning. Coast Guard and county officials provided no other details about the collision or the identity of the dead person. One boater was killed, three were injured and a fifth person was missing Sunday when their dingy and a boat collided off the coast of Santa Catalina Island. The injured were airlifted by helicopter to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, the Coast Guard said. The collision occurred shortly after midnight about a quarter mile from Casino Point, on the island that is a popular getaway just over 20 miles from the Los Angeles County mainland.

It was a dream job, of sorts, and Michael Harris was very excited about the work he was able to do, according to David Harris. "He could have done anything, you know," his brother David Harris said. So far, Los Angeles county authorities have not indicated whether alcohol played a part in the deadly crash, they said. That'€™s why Michael Harris, 26, decided earlier this year to return to his alma mater '€“ Atherton-based Menlo School '€“ as a counselor, his family said. Meanwhile, David Harris said that his brother was a role model and, right now, all the family can do is try to cope.

The couple lived in San Francisco and was planning to move in together. Reid Wells, the sister of one of the victims, is now speaking publicly for the first time and talking about her sibling's tough recovery ahead.Kelly Wells is in the hospital, unaware of what happened and unable to speak.
