CONSTRUCTION WORKER DIES AFTER FALLING FROM WILSHIRE GRAND TOWER IN DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES

The man fell from the Wilshire Grand Tower in the 600 block of S. Figueroa Street around 12:30 p.m.

Authorities said the worker's body struck the back end of a moving car.

Asked what "not work-related" meant, a spokeswoman for the company told KTLA that she could only say that the man who died was "not performing any functions related to his employment or his work" when he died.

He had taken off his hard hat and had not been wearing a safety harness because it wasn’t required for the bottom floors he was working on, said Lisa Gritzner, spokeswoman for Turner Construction, the main contractor on the project.

The coroner is also investigating the possibility of Thursday’s death being a workplace accident, because it happened at a construction site, said Ed Winter, assistant chief Los Angeles County Coroner.
