Long Beach man killed in crash on 405 in Torrance

CHP officials said the accident remained under investigation. However, it appeared that Montross’ vehicle hit the center divider on the 405, promping him to get out of the vehicle.

A 49-year-old Long Beach man was killed Friday when he got out of his vehicle after an accident on the northbound 405 Freeway in Torrance and was struck by another vehicle, authorities said.

The collision in the HOV lane occurred about 5:10 a.m. just north of Artesia Boulevard, the California Highway Patrol reported. The man died at the scene of the accident, CHP Officer Jennifer Cassidy said.

County coroner’s officials identified the fatally injured motorist as Joseph Montross.

CHP officials said the accident remained under investigation. However, it appeared that Montross’ vehicle hit the center divider on the 405, promptng him to get out of the vehicle.

Four northbound lanes were closed while the CHP conducted its investigation. They reopened about three hours after the crash.
