One Dead, Five Hurt in Rio Linda Crash

One person is dead and five others injured after a head-on crash near Levee Road and Elverta Road in Rio Linda. Of the five injured, three suffered serious injuries and two suffered moderate injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol. A few people were transported by helicopter. No other details were immediately available.

Head-on crash in Sacramento leaves 1 dead, 5 hurt

A two-vehicle crash in north Sacramento on Sunday afternoon, killing one driver and injuring five other people, according to the California Highway Patrol. The Lincoln was speeding when it drifted into the southbound lane and crashed head on with a Subaru, the CHP said. The 61-year-old man who was driving the Subaru was the only person inside the vehicle and was killed, officers said. All five people inside the Lincoln were taken to the hospital with moderate to major injuries. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, but based on statements from the passengers in the Lincoln, the driver could face involuntary manslaughter charges, the CHP said.

Sacramento man killed when hit by car going 100-mph near Elverta

Stepanova, driving with four passengers, was headed southbound on East Levee Road faster than 100 mph, according to the CHP. When he approached a right curve in the roadway, the high speed caused his vehicle to enter a northbound lane.

There, his vehicle collided head-on with a car driven by a Gary E. Lappin, 61, of Sacramento, traveling northbound at 45 mph. Lappin died at the scene.
