The Aspen Medical Products San Diego Triathlon Challenge took place in the area Sunday morning. Walker said no registered athletes were reported injured.

A 56-year-old bicyclist who was riding alongside a Sunday morning triathlon in Encinitas was hit by a car and transported to a hospital with serious injuries. The victim was in a bike lane headed east on Manchester Avenue when he was struck by a 2007 Honda near the entrance to Mira Costa College about 10 a.m. The driver, a 61-year-old, was in the lane next to the rider, also headed east, when she veered into the bike lane, striking the victim. She stopped immediately after the accident. It has been reported that the cyclist may have been riding next to friends participating in the triathlon.
