ANTIOCH -- The driver of a car that crashed during a police chase Tuesday, killing a 16-year-old occupant, has been charged with murder, a Contra Costa County prosecutor said. Instead of stopping, the driver, later identified as Mathis, sped away, heading west until the car crashed and caught fire about a half-mile away in Antioch. Javonte Mathis, 22, has been charged with the murder in the death of 16-year-old Torry Hines, along with felony causing death while evading an officer, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
