An 88-year-old Castro Valley resident died after a six-vehicle, chain-reaction crash Thursday morning on Interstate 580, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Chun was a passenger in the white 2015 Mercedes when he suffered fatal injuries. The driver of the car, a 60-year-old Castro Valley woman, suffered minor injuries.
Sometime shortly after 10:00 a.m., the 66-year-old driver of a westbound pickup truck on I-580 failed to slow down for the cars in front of him and rear-ended a white Mercedes, which in turn rear-ended a black Mercedes. A 33-year-old SUV driver attempted to avoid the wreckage but ended up colliding with the pickup truck and two additional vehicles. An 88-year-old man who was a passenger in the white Mercedes that was first struck died in the crash. No one else involved sustained more than minor injuries.
