A 21-year-old woman and a 1-year-old child were hit by a sport-utility vehicle as she pushed a stroller near a freeway onramp in Hayward, authorities said.

Denesha Turner is at Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, where doctors declared her brain-dead Saturday, said her mother Benita Noble.

"She was at the library reading him books, something she loved to do," Noble said Tuesday afternoon. "She was just on her way home."
A 21-year-old woman was pushing a stroller with a 1-year-old child inside across the on-ramp to northbound Interstate 880 when they were hit by a 22-year-old woman driving a Honda CRV. The two suffered major injuries and were hospitalized. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. Denesha Turner was declared brain-dead on Saturday, and her son, Arthur Griffin, remains in critical condition at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in Oakland.
