Hayward: Woman, child injured after car chase and crash on Tennyson Road

A driver fleeing police crashed his car on Tennyson Road early Friday and then ran away, leaving behind an injured woman and child, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A female passenger and child were inside the car and taken to a local hospital with undisclosed injuries. Police said the woman is in her 20s and the child is under 10-years-old.

The crash was reported Friday about 1 a.m. on Tennyson at Russ roads, where two PG&E power poles were knocked over causing about 100 customers to be left without electricity.

Police attempted to pull over a vehicle at around 12:51 a.m. on Tennyson Road near the Interstate 880 exit. The car instead attempted to flee, before running into a power pole. The male driver of the car fled the scene, leaving two passengers, a woman and a child, inside. Both had suffered minor injuries. Tennyson Road was closed after the crash while police investigated.
