Pedestrian Killed In HaywardHit-And-Run

HAYWARD (CBS SF) — A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run in Hayward Monday evening, according to police. The driver stopped briefly and a group of men wearing hooded sweatshirts stepped out of the vehicle before they fled the scene, according to police. The other driver remained at the scene of the crash and cooperated with the subsequent investigation, according to police. A woman crossing Hesperian in a lit crosswalk was struck by two vehicles, including a dark Toyota Corolla from the 1990s. Anyone who may have witnessed the fatal crash is asked to call Sgt.

Ladnay, who was not on drugs or drunk at the time, told police a dark-colored 1990s four-door Toyota Corolla hit Bermudez before he did. HAYWARD -- A 45-year-old man lied to police when he said another driver was the first to hit a 65-year-old woman crossing a Hayward street in December, authorities said Friday. The Newark resident said people in the Corolla briefly got out of the car before driving off toward Union City. Ladnay was arrested Friday and booked at the Hayward Police Department's jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter. Traffic investigators, however, reconstructed the crash, interviewed witnesses again and found no evidence of a second car.

Aurora Bermudez, 65, was mowed down just after dark by two southbound vehicles. The second driver stopped and is cooperating with police. The driver and two passengers in the first vehicle got out, saw what happened, and then took off in their burgundy or dark-colored 1990s four-door Toyota Corolla.
