HAYWARD -- A 45-year-old man lied to police when he said another driver was the first to hit a 65-year-old woman crossing a Hayward street in December, authorities said Friday. The Newark resident said people in the Corolla briefly got out of the car before driving off toward Union City. Ladnay was arrested Friday and booked at the Hayward Police Department's jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter. Traffic investigators, however, reconstructed the crash, interviewed witnesses again and found no evidence of a second car.
