Thick fog and a winding road made a hazardous combination early Sunday morning for a driver whose car went off Highway 1 north of Jenner and rolled down an embankment.
The crash about a half-mile north of Meyers Grade Road was reported just after 2 a.m. with fog and rain hampering visibility.
The driver, Curtis Clausen, 21, of Rohnert Park, suffered major injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol. He managed to extricate himself from the car and climb back to the road, where he was transported by a private vehicle to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
