Multiple people began calling 911 at about 12:30 p.m. to report a plane crash in an area of vineyards and fields southeast of the Adobe Creek Golf and Country Club and in the southeastern approach to the airport.

An ultralight aircraft crashed into a field in Petaluma Friday afternoon, and the pilot of the ultralight MXLII died in the crash. The crash occurred about a mile away from the Petaluma Airport. Friends of the pilot, who has been identified as David Michael Wright, 51, say he'd been learning to fly for about six months and planned to take his pilot's test this week. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
