Two men killed, Jesus Cardenas, 19, seriously injured, transported to hospital, after their car leaves Petaluma Hill Road near Santa Rosa and crashes into a power pole.
2 die in Sonoma County crash.
Two men were killed early Monday in Sonoma County when a Honda Civic broadsided a power pole, apparently after the driver fell asleep, authorities said.
At 2:45 a.m., the driver failed to negotiate a right-hand curve on northbound Petaluma Hill Road, north of Hunter Lane, and slammed sideways into a power pole, ejecting the right rear passenger into the roadway and splitting the vehicle in two, said the California Highway Patrol.
The ejected passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was rushed to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead as well, the CHP said. The front-seat passenger, 19-year-old Jesus Cardenas of Santa Rosa, was hospitalized with a broken clavicle and a concussion.
Investigators believe the driver, who like the other deceased victim was not immediately identified, had not been drinking, but may have fallen asleep because there was no evidence he tried to steer back onto the roadway.
