A woman died and a man could face vehicular homicide charges after a late Tuesday crash in northeast Colorado Springs that closed Austin Bluffs Parkway for several hours, according to Colorado Springs police.
Nicholas Alvarado, 20, was identified by police as the driver of a teal Acura that was westbound on Austin Bluffs Parkway about 11:30 p.m. at a high rate of speed. Alvarado lost control trying to turn right and ran off the right side of the road, striking the curb, police said. The vehicle then rolled onto its left side, ejecting a female passenger who was in the back seat.
The woman died from the injuries she suffered, police said. Alvarado broke his leg in the crash and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Alvarado will be arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide, driving under the influence and careless driving, as soon as he is released from the hospital, according to police.
