Driver arrested in hit-and-run that seriously injured skateboarder

A man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run that seriously injured a skateboarder in Colorado Springs early Tuesday morning.

A Colorado Springs Police officer said he was driving on Galley Road near Querida Drive at 1:30 a.m. when he saw two men skateboarding in the middle of the street.

Two people were riding skateboards on Galley Road when they attempted to cross westbound lanes of traffic and one of the skaters was struck by a car. The car, described as a 2004 to 2008 phantom gray pearl colored Toyota Corolla, kept going after the collision and did not stop to render aid. The 19-year-old skater suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized. Several days later Kyle Atkinson, 21, was arrested in connection with the accident. He faces a charge of accidents involving death or personal injuries, which is a class four felony.
