One person killed in plane crash in Buena Vista

In a tweet, the National Transportation Safety Board called the plane “experimental.” 

Officers first received reports about a crash around 12:15 p.m. Monday, and witnesses told officials they heard the aircraft’s engine sputtering before the crash, Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze said.

Authorities said the aircraft was a single-engine experimental plane.

The pilot was identified Tuesday as 63-year-old Jay Jones of Buena Vista.

The National Transportation Safety Board, in their preliminary findings on the crash, said, however, that the woman who heard the emergency declaration reported that the plane’s pilot did not elaborate on the problem he faced.
