Fatal bike crash near Horsetooth, CSP says

Local cyclist Dan Porter, owner of the Northern Colorado website YourGroupRide, rode the stretch Monday. He said cyclists can reach speeds of up to 45 mph when traveling north on the descent.

Cyclist who died of heart attack Tuesday ID'd

James Leon Gregg died after complications from ischemic heart disease. It's believed he had a heart attack while riding the steep hills near Horsetooth Reservoir, drifted across the road, and rolled onto his left side — it's not believed he suffered any trauma or injuries, the coroner's office and Colorado State Patrol said.
A male cyclist may have been traveling at very high speeds on Larimer County Road 23 when he veered off of the road and crashed into a small ditch at about 6:45 a.m. The area around the crash is a steep, straight hill, where bicyclists can reach up to 45 mph.
