Chief Poncelow said from the initial investigation of the crash it appeared the boys were speeding on Denver Avenue when they "failed to negotiate a turn" onto Ninth Street. The van hit a parked car and came to rest in a yard, Poncelow said.
One teenager was killed and three teenagers were injured when the van they were in lost control during a turn early Tuesday morning, according to Fort Lupton Police. Police said all of the victims were boys. When Police Chief Ken Poncelow spoke to 9NEWS, he said he hadn't heard the exact ages, but he believed the boys were young teenagers. Chief Poncelow said from the initial investigation of the crash it appeared the boys were speeding on Denver Avenue when they "failed to negotiate a turn" onto Ninth Street. The van hit a parked car and came to rest in a yard, Poncelow said. No one else, besides the four teens, were injured in the crash. Two of the injured teen boys were taken to Children's Hospital Colorado. One was flown there, and the other was transported there by an ambulance, Poncelow said. The third injured teen was taken to Northern Colorado Medical Center by ambulance. The extent of the boys' injuries was not known, and the names of the injured nor the deceased victim's name have not been released.
