Larimer deputy accused in Sunday hit-and-run

A lazy Sunday afternoon took a wild turn when a Larimer County Sheriff's Office deputy reportedly crashed through a pair of fences in Loveland and then sped away while a homeowner gave chase.

"[Nail] never said a word to me, never looked at me, nothing," he said. "With everything going on these days with all the police negativity, that really doesn’t help solidify anything when you see an  accident happen and the police officer is the one that’s driving away.  You expect them to be the one to stop."

Nail said his pager went off while he was driving, prompting him to take his eyes off the road moments before he drifted to the right and crashed through the fences. When officers asked why he drove away from the scene, he responded, "that's a good question," according to police reports.
Steven Guardado was sitting in his backyard with his family near the intersection of U.S. Highway 287 and Knobcone Drive when a silver truck crashed through his fence and into his yard before speeding away. The truck narrowly missed Guardado's family who had been sitting there moments before. The driver of the vehicle was wearing a LCSO uniform and badge, and the Loveland police confirms that it was a member of the sheriff's office.
