Deputies with the San Miguel sheriff's office believe the driver failed to negotiate a left-hand turn on Highway 145 near Windy Point and lost control.
The driver, a 64-year-old-man, was found injured in the roadway. The passenger, a 60-year-old woman, was found about 30 yards down a steep embankment.
One fatality, one injured in motorcycle accident near Telluride
After CPR and other life-saving measures were attempted, that patient, a 60 year-old woman from Durango, was pronounced dead on the scene. Traffic was stopped on the highway as emergency personnel responded.
A sheriff’s department spokesperson identified the deceased woman as Kathleen Morrisey.
