According to state police, a 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by Karen S. Minutella, 47, and a 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by John K. Healey, 47, both of Bayonne, N.J., were traveling northbound with a group of motorcyclists.
Karen S. Minutella, 47, a mother of three, was killed Sunday afternoon when she was flung from her 2003 Harley Davidson after colliding head-on with an SUV driven by a 16-year-old, state police said.
Motorcyclist William Moshka, 48, of Bristol tried to avoid the crash and was thrown from his motorcycle, they said. The motorcycle struck a second vehicle that had stopped because of the initial crash.
In Connecticut, 16-year-old drivers are only permitted to have passengers in the first six months of having their license if they are accompanied by a parent, driving instructor or licensed driver over 21 with a clean record, the channel reported.
A group of motorcycles were traveling together on Route 81 when an SUV driven by a 16-year-old collided with two of the motorcycles. Those two motorcycles were driven by Karen S. Minutella, 47, and John K. Healey, 47. Both were thrown from their motorcycles, and Minutella was pronounced dead at the scene. Healey was taken to Hartford Hospital with life-threatening injuries. No one in the SUV was injured. The accident is still under investigation.
