Newington police say hit-and-run victim tried to rescue dog Posted: Updated: Police in Newington a woman struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver apparently had been trying to rescue a dog on the side of the road. Police said they later talked with the driver accused of hitting her. Police said Frey stopped in the left lane of the road and appeared to have been trying to contain the dog just past an intersection. Sixty-year-old Sharon Frey of West Hartford was struck on Willard Avenue at about 6 a.m. Police said they found an injured dog and took it to a veterinarian.

Police have located the driver involved in a hit-and-run crash that killed a woman Tuesday morning. Police say the driver is cooperating with police and remains under investigation.
