According to Capitol Police, a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on South Capitol Street near D Street SE crashed and briefly flew through the air into a tree.
The male driver, later identified as Hunter B. Harries, 19, from McLean Va., was trapped in the vehicle, and was eventually rescued and transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
The investigation of the crash closed down several streets in the area. The closures were still in effect as of 10 a.m.
