2 rail workers struck and killed by Amtrak train in Washington DC

Amtrak service resumed Wednesday morning between Washington DC and Philadelphia after two CSX rail employees were struck and killed by an Amtrak train shortly before midnight near Washington's Union Station, the train service and the railroad company said.

Investigation Continues Into Amtrak Accident That Killed 2 Workers On Train Tracks

As the CSX train was heading toward Union Station from Baltimore, an automatic alert indicated that there was a problem with one of more of the train’s wheels.

2 Hit By Train Were From Pennsylvania And Maryland

The two men who died were freight train conductors who got out of their train Tuesday to check out an alert that there was a problem with one or more of their train’s wheels. They died when they were struck by an Amtrak passenger train.     

New Details Released On Train Accident That Killed 2 Workers

The report shows the the conductor and conductor trainee were returning to their southbound train after inspecting a reported defective railcar when the accident happened.
