9 people involved in Gainesville crash
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Gainesville Fire Department says there was a serious accident on State Road 26 next to Gumroot Swamp that involved nine people. The victims, including five children with serious injuries, were taken to UF Health Gainesville. An adult was also was seriously hurt. As of Sunday night, the conditions of eight people had been improved to non life-threatening. One child remained in crtiical condition.

The Gainesville Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash. Of the nine injured, four were critical, GRF reported.

Five children were taken to the hospital and a 6-year-old died from injuries sustained during the accident.
The children's ages ranged from 4 months old to 8 years old.

At this point, GPD does not believe there was any criminal intent and are primarily focused on figuring out why the Kia crossed the centerline. Officers say it was not a situation where the Kia was trying to pass another vehicle.
