A 59 year old Lake Butler man is dead after a crash in Union County Saturday night. Florida Highway Patrol says 59 year old Malcolm H. Crews was driving a 2007 Chevy Silverado north on Northwest County Road 241 with passenger 51 year old James A. Shaw, also of Lake Butler. Troopers say for unknown reasons the pickup truck traveled into the southbound lane and veered onto the southbound shoulders. According to investigators the left side of the pickup truck struck a mailbox and kept traveling on the southbound shoulder. Then troopers say the truck became airborne, traveling across a deep culvert before the left side of the truck hit two support poles from a private fence. According to investigators the truck overturned multiple times before coming to a final rest on its right side facing west. Investigators say Crews was ejected from the truck and died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt according to investigators. His passenger, Shaw was wearing a seatbelt and was taken to UF Health with serious injuries.
