Man dead in pedestrian accident in Palatka

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say a pedestrian is dead after an accident that happened Saturday around 2:45 a.m. in Palatka.

Troopers say a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Brandon Knudsen of Satsuma, Florida hit 28-year-old Zachary Vittetow of Glen St. Mary.

Troopers say Knudsen was traveling south on U.S. 17 at 1st Street in the city limits of Palatka before the Memorial Bridge. A pedestrian was crossing the southbound lanes of U.S. 17 at 1st Street and was not in the crosswalk. The pedestrian died at the scene according to troopers, who say the investigation is ongoing.

Crash investigators say Knudsen was not injured. An investigation is underway to see if was alcohol a factor in the accident.
