One man died and a woman was injured after a boat crashed into a Dania Beach bridge piling Friday, authorities said.

Officials identified the victims as 50-year-old Marcella Hewett and 58-year-old David Duda on Saturday.

An 18-foot-long Mariah model boat struck a piling on the Old Griffin Road bridge, with Duda dying as a result of the collision, a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesman said.

Early indications suggested that the boat was speeding, in a no speeding zone, when it hit the bridge, and that Hewett was at the helm. But it was unclear what happened next.
