Julie Michele Castor, 18, survives car crash caused by street racers before being struck and killed while standing outside wrecked car on I-595 in Davie, Florida

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at about 11:53 p.m. Wednesday, 18-year-old Julie Castor of Davie was driving a 2006 Toyota Corolla westbound on I-595 just east of University Drive when she lost control of her car after being cut off by another vehicle that may have been racing on the roadway. The Toyota veered left, struck a concrete barrier, and then went across the westbound lanes before hitting another concrete wall. Castor exited her car and was standing next to it when she was struck by a 1997 Toyota Avalon. The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene. The Avalon driver, 28-year old Nichole Custer, remained at the scene to cooperate with investigators, but FHP is seeking two vehicles that may have caused the initial crash that caused Castor to wreck. FHP says the two vehicles that were racing before the initial crash are described as a green Ford Mustang and a dark gray vehicle, and anyone with information should contact the Florida Highway Patrol at 954-837-4012 or Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-8477.
