Bicyclist struck, killed along Copans Road, investigators say

A bicycle rider was struck by a vehicle and killed early Tuesday along Copans Road, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office. Because of the investigation, Copans Road was closed in both directions from Northeast Fifth Avenue to Northeast Eighth Avenue. The crash near Northeast Sixth Avenue, east of Dixie Highway, happened about 6 a.m. Details about the crash and the identities of those involved have not yet been released. The road was expected to open about 9:30 a.m.

Authorities are investigating after a bicyclist was struck and killed in Pompano Beach Tuesday morning. The incident happened around 6 a.m. in the area of Northeast 6th Avenue and Copans Road, Broward Sheriff's Office officials said. Police said a car struck and killed the cyclist, but it's unknown if the driver may face charges. The identity of the cyclist wasn't released.

DETECTIVES INVESTIGATE FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH IN POMPANO BEACH

Traffic homicide detectives do not know how the bicyclist, who was later identified as Christopher Batista, initially ended up in the roadway. Detectives said he was already lying in the roadway when the driver of a 2000 Lincoln Continental struck him. The driver, Darryl Henderson, remained on scene and told investigators he was traveling westbound on East Copans Road in the center through when he swerved to try to avoid the bicyclist.
