3 semis and at least 8 cars involved in fatal crash near Titusville, Florida
Fatal crash keeps I-95 exit ramp closed near Titusville
The accident, which happened around 6:40 p.m. Saturday, kept the northbound lane of the interstate closed until 4:25 a.m. Sunday.
The identity of the semi-truck driver who was killed when his truck caught on fire has not been determined. Montes said FHP has contacted the trucking company to help identify the man, but confirmation may required dental records because the body was so badly burned.
Two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries and released. An estimated 15 people were treated at the scene, Montes said.
I-95 ramp reopens after fiery chain-reaction crash
The crash occurred about 6:40 p.m. in a construction zone when a northbound tractor trailer lost control and struck a crash attenuator, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
After the impact, the tractor trailer blocked all northbound lanes and part of the SR 46 exit ramp. Traffic came to a stop — but a second tractor-trailer driver failed to notice, troopers said.
That semi-truck struck five vehicles in the left lane, rear-ended another tractor trailer, and caught fire. The driver was killed; three additional vehicles were struck; and a female driver escaped a flaming vehicle, troopers said.
