A Toyota stopped at a traffic light was rear-ended by a freightliner box truck as its driver attempted to stop using the emergency brakes, officials said.

Nicholas Jayden Carroll, 4, died at the scene while being treated in an ambulance. His sister, MacKenzie Carroll, 2, was flown to Arnold Palmer Hospital and was in serious condition, sheriff's spokeswoman Donna Wood said.
A traffic collision occurred at around 9:15 am, this morning, Saturday, June 6, 2015, at the intersection of Highway 27 and Polo Park Boulevard in Davenport, Florida. A Toyota was stopped at a traffic signal at the intersection when a freightliner box truck came to the stopped traffic and rear-ended the Toyota. One of the children sitting in the back seat, a four-year-old boy, was killed. The second child, a young female, was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando, in critical condition. The driver of the Toyota was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in serious condition. The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries.
