Millender's initial blood screen indicated the presence of cocaine and marijuana and a block alcohol content of .143, well above the level at which Florida law presumes impairment, they said.
Polk County Sheriff deputies were dispatched to 8335 Socrum Loop Rd. just before 8 am Saturday in response to a damaged vehicle in the driveway. The sole occupant of the Honda sedan, Briana Millender, 22, had suffered critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital where she died. Investigators believe the vehicle was traveling north on Socrum Loop when it failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. At the intersection of Buckhorn Rd. the car exited the roadway, slid and struck an oak tree head-on, coming to rest in the driveway of a residence on Socrum Loop Rd. Millender was not wearing a seatbelt, and impairment and high speed may have played a factor in the fatal collision. An initial blood screen showed a presence of illegal narcotics. The deceased blood-alcohol registered at .143, well over the legal limit of .08.
