The crash happened on private property in a wooded area at Underhill Farms in the 27600 block of Martin Highway, said Daniel Wouters, spokesman for Martin County Fire Rescue.

The pilot was the only person on board the plane at the time of the crash, Wouters confirmed.

The name of the pilot, who was taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, hasn’t been released.

According to emergency workers, the aircraft was nose down and tail up after the crash.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident because the Federal Aviation Administration doesn’t look into ultralight accidents, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Christine Christofek.

The Underhill farm is not a former racetrack at all. It's an old farm where the owner lets all us friends come out and drive our offroad trucks.
