Driver in SUV rollover wreck in Gwinnett County dies

The driver in a single vehicle rollover wreck on Ga. 316 near Sugarloaf Parkway Tuesday afternoon has died.

“After impact, (the Explorer) rolled several times, causing the unrestrained driver to be ejected,” an officer wrote in the report, adding that speed and alcohol weren’t believed to have been factors in the single-car crash. 

Shawn L. Bailey was driving an SUV on Ga. 316 when he swerved to avoid a collision with another vehicle and struck an embankment on the side of the highway. The SUV rolled several times and came to a stop 75 feet away. Two passengers in the vehicle, a 37-year-old woman and a 14-year-old boy, suffered minor injuries and were taken along with Bailey to the Gwinnett Medical Center. Bailey died at the hospital of his injuries. Neither excessive speed of alcohol appear to be factors in this accident.
