A tragic pedestrian accident in Southwest Atlanta resulted in the death of a 68-year-old man on Friday morning. The incident occurred at approximately 11:27 a.m. at the busy intersection of Campbellton Road SW and Delowe Drive SW. According to Atlanta Police Department reports, the victim allegedly entered the roadway against the pedestrian signal when he fell and was subsequently struck by an oncoming vehicle. Emergency responders arrived promptly at the scene after receiving the distress call, where they found the pedestrian with severe injuries. The victim was immediately transported to a local hospital in critical condition, where medical professionals attempted life-saving measures. Despite their efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries. The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The intersection of Campbellton Road SW and Delowe Drive SW is a major crossing point in Southwest Atlanta's transportation network, serving as a crucial connector between residential areas and commercial districts. This section of Campbellton Road typically experiences heavy traffic flow, particularly during daylight hours, as it serves as a primary artery for commuter traffic and local business access. The intersection is equipped with standard traffic signals and pedestrian crossing infrastructure, including crosswalks and pedestrian signal indicators. The area is near several community facilities and retail establishments, contributing to regular pedestrian activity throughout the day.

Under Georgia law, pedestrian accidents fall under specific provisions of the state's personal injury and wrongful death statutes. Victims or their families typically have two years from the date of the incident to file a legal claim. While pedestrians must obey traffic signals and use marked crosswalks, drivers also have a duty of care to remain vigilant and take reasonable precautions to avoid collisions. Georgia follows a modified comparative negligence system, meaning compensation may be affected by the degree of fault assigned to each party. Potential compensation could include medical expenses, funeral costs, lost wages, and non-economic damages such as pain and suffering. Insurance claims may involve both auto liability coverage and personal injury protection policies.
