Motorcyclist dies in crash with Cobb County Transit bus

Police say a motorcyclist has died in a crash with a transit bus in suburban Atlanta. Marietta police spokesman David Baldwin tells local news media that the crash occurred about 1:20 p.m. Wednesday when a Cobb County Transit bus attempted to turn left into the transit depot and collided with the motorcycle. Baldwin did not know which vehicle had the right away before the crash.

The violent wreck happened near the Cobb Community Transit transfer station on the south loop, which has become Marietta's most dangerous stretch of roadway. Police say they've tried to make the area more safe. Channel 2 Action News was with them this summer as they cracked down on people crossing outside of crosswalks and speeding. Ironically they had resumed the stepped up enforcement just days ago.

The motorcycle struck the side of the bus and its rider 27-year-old Charles Ripley, Jr., of Marietta, was pronounced dead at the scene, police spokesman Officer David Baldwin said. It’s unclear if Ripley was wearing a helmet.

Other news articles state the bus was making a left turn, yet it's clear that this fatal impact was on the right side of the vehicle...

Unless the bus had a green arrow, it pulled in front of the motorcyle, a common fate for the "didn't see him" motorcyclist.  Unless excessive speed was the issue, it seems pretty clear who was in the wrong place.
