Plane crashes in Murray County; four reportedly killed

The Murray County Sheriff told reports on scene that four people were killed in the crash. 

Small plane explodes in air in Murray County

Officials say when they went to the location of the crash they saw the two engine piper plane was missing two of its wings. They believe some type of weather event may have caused the crash.

The spokesperson initially said that witnesses reported seeing the plane "explode in the air," but later said that information didn't appear to be correct.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen says the Piper PA23 went down around 4:45 p.m. Saturday near the Tennessee line.

Investigators said the plane’s wreckage was scattered over a mile across dense vegetation. They said they found pieces of the plane’s fuselage, fragments of the right and left wing.
